serious arson: Investigations after high-rise fire in Berlin-Kreuzberg with two dead

After a tragic high-rise fire in Berlin-Kreuzberg, in which a 22-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man died, the police are now investigating the suspicion of serious arson. However, the investigation is still at the beginning.

The fire was reported to the fire brigade around 4:27 p.m. and the first vehicle was arrived at the fire site at 4:31 p.m. But a minute later the first person jumped out of the apartment and died. The fire brigade could not say exactly how long the fire had raged in the apartment, but found that such an apartment could be completely on fire within five to ten minutes if it cannot be deleted.

Although the rescue workers saw a second person who desperately held on to the balcony railing, a rescue over a jump pillow was not possible. The fall height of 36 meters exceeds the capacity of the jumping pillows, which are designed for a maximum of 16 meters. James Klein, spokesman for the Berlin fire brigade, explained that it was physically impossible to develop a pillow that could intercept such a fall without serious injuries or even death. Larger pillows would also not fit into the fire engines.

Another problem with the rescue operation was two private vehicles that blocked the way for the emergency vehicles. As a result, valuable seconds and minutes were lost. However, it is speculation whether a rescue of the two tenants would have been faster or at all possible

The aerial ladders of the fire brigade did not reach the twelfth floor of the high -rise, since they are only designed for a maximum of 22 meters. However, high-rise buildings from a certain amount are obliged to have escape and rescue staircases. These also exist in the high -rise building on Lindenstrasse.

It remains to be seen which further results will result in the investigation by the police. It is a tragic and unfortunate situation in which the rescue of the two tenants might not have been possible, even if everything would have been done to help them.
