Green oases for Treptow-Köpenick: 266 new trees for autumn!

The Treptow-Köpenick Roads and Green Spaces Department has successfully completed the planning for autumn planting in 2025. During a period from October to December, 266 new trees will be planted in the district. The location-appropriate selection of trees is carried out specifically in the districts of Müggelheim, Grünau, Rahnsdorf, Johannistal, Adlershof and Köpenick. This initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy to green and improve the quality of life in the region.

The planned trees are to be planted along streets, in green spaces and on playgrounds. Preparations for this planting campaign have been underway since the end of July 2025 and the first planting pits have been dug. A crucial step in this process is the on-site inspection of sites, which carefully considers various factors such as underground and above-ground utilities and planned construction work. In addition, before the actual planting, a search shaft is carried out to check the number of pipes in the tree disc.

Individual selection and sustainable care

Particular attention is paid to the tailor-made selection of tree species for each location. Growth habit, final size, fruit formation and visual appearance play a central role. The Roads and Parks Department aims to plant a diverse and climate-resilient mix of tree species. This specialist method not only supports ecological goals, but also significantly improves the cityscape.

After planting, the young trees are cared for by contracted companies over a period of four years. During this time, regular watering takes place before maintenance finally becomes the responsibility of the Roads and Parks Department. This long-term care strategy ensures the trees' vitality until their 10th year.

Information and transparency

The list of newly planted trees for fall 2025 will be available online. Interested citizens can view the details on the Streets and Parks Department website to find out about the new plantings and the tree species chosen. In doing so, the district not only shows its commitment to a greener environment, but also to transparency and the involvement of the public in such environmentally relevant projects.
