Füchse Berlin move into the DHB Cup round of 16 – 35:30 against Wetzlar!

The Füchse Berlin have confidently qualified for the round of 16 in the DHB Cup. In an exciting game they defeated HSG Wetzlar 35:30 (19:15) in the MBS Arena. Although the Füchse had home advantage, the game was played there due to their cooperation with 1. VfL Potsdam. With 1,596 spectators in attendance, the arena became a venue for exciting handball sports.

In the game, Tim Freihöfer and Mathias Gidsel showed outstanding performances and scored seven goals each. Coach Nicolej Krickau was unable to rely on three of his regular players due to injuries: Nils Lichtlein, Lukas Herburger and Leo Prantner were sorely missing from the team. Circular player Mijajlo Marsenic was also spared.

Game progress and team performance

The Foxes started without concentration and quickly found themselves in danger of losing touch when the score was level at 4:4. But goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev made crucial saves while Wetzlar launched hectic attacks. The Berliners took advantage of their chance and scored more fast-paced counterattacks and simple goals, which meant they took the lead for the first time with five goals (13:8) after 16 minutes.

After the break, the Foxes did not manage to increase the gap any further, but control of the game remained in their hands. The Wetzlar keeper Karim Hendawy saved a few shots, but the Berlin team picked up the pace and maintained their lead until the end. In the final phase, Wetzlar's Stefan Cavor was shown the red card, but this didn't stop the Füchse from finishing the game confidently.
