Füchse Berlin defeat Melsungen and extend with star talent Freihöfer!

The Füchse Berlin achieved an important victory against MT Melsungen in the Handball Bundesliga on Sunday. With a final score of 30:24 (14:13), the Berliners consolidated their position in the table. The game took place in the Max-Schmeling-Halle in front of 8,020 spectators and was the third win for the Füchse this season.

The game started evenly, with the Foxes taking the lead 6-3 after six minutes. But Melsungen couldn't be shaken off and equalized to 8:8. The Füchse goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev was particularly outstanding, making ten saves in the first half and contributing significantly to the narrow lead at halftime. In the second half, the Melsungers equalized again to make it 21:21 before the Füchse won the match with a 3-0 run.

Contract extension for Tim Freihöfer

Another positive aspect of the weekend was the news regarding Tim Freihöfer. The talented player has extended his contract with the Füchsen until the summer of 2029. Freihöfer, who came to Berlin from Swabia in 2018, quickly established himself in the youth academy and developed into a key player for the team. Last season he was the Füchse's second best shooter with 210 goals and landed in sixth place in the HBL ranking.

The support of managing director Bob Hanning was crucial during Freihöfer's development. Despite his initial homesickness, the player tirelessly pursued his goal of becoming a professional handball player. His performances not only contributed to the club's first German championship title, but also saw international success, including the U21 World Championship and the EHF European League in 2023.

Outlook and team cohesion

Coach Nicolej Krickau emphasized that Freihöfer's contract extension was a logical decision and that it was important to keep players in the club who continue to represent identification. Freihöfer himself expressed his delight at the club's trust and his feeling of belonging in Berlin. He should form an important team with Aitor Ariño in the future.

Thanks to the strong defensive performance in the decisive phase of the game against Melsungen and the positive development of players like Freihöfer, the Füchse are optimistic about the future. The fans can look forward to seeing what further successes the team can achieve this season.
