Falkenberg before the groundbreaking vote: Does the city stay in the community?

On August 14, 2025, important decisions will be made in Falkenberg (Elbe-Elster). The city councilors will vote in October on whether they will remain in the municipality of Liebenwerda. The mayor of the municipality, Claudia Sieber, announced this on Thursday. The honorary mayor of Falkenberg, Stephan Bawey, confirmed the information and was present at the meeting of the four honorary mayors with Sieber and the city council.

The date for the city council in Falkenberg is set on October 9, 2025. Claudia Sieber expressed hope that Falkenberg will remain part of the community. At the same time, Bawey announced his resignation and considered leaving the community. He criticized the high workload of 30–35 hours per week, which he had to do in his volunteering, and pointed out that this activity was unpaid.

Desire for more autonomy

The other volunteers also expressed the desire for more autonomy, especially in the areas of tourism and business. This reflects a growing dissatisfaction with the current structure of the community.

The situation in Falkenberg is not isolated. There are also voices in other regions calling for improvements to municipal structures and better service. For example, there were reports of complaints when traveling by air in more distant countries. Positive experiences contrast with a lack of service, such as poor customer service and long wait times at airports. Such issues highlight the importance of improving public communication and support.

In Falkenberg, the decision about the future in the community is eagerly awaited, while a similar public debate is conducted in other areas in connection with comfort and service.
