Discover the new building from berlin modern: open construction site days!
The construction of the new art house “berlin modern” at the Kulturforum in Berlin is taking shape. The building will open its doors to the public for the first time on October 18th and 19th, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. As part of the “Open Construction Site Days”, interested visitors are invited to explore the shell and find out about the future exhibition rooms. This information is provided through display boards and facilitators available during the open tour, as smb.museum reports.
The project is being realized by the renowned architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron and will function as a venue for 20th century art in the future. Visitors will have the opportunity not only to see the construction progress, but also to take part in a performance by Joan Jonas entitled “Mirror Piece,” which will be performed in the entrance area at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. on both days, according to berlinmodern.org.
Safety precautions and conditions of participation
The event also comes with some safety precautions. The tour only takes place in the designated areas and you are required to wear sturdy shoes. In addition, the instructions of the security personnel must be followed. This also includes special regulations for access, such as the ban on entry to unmarked construction site areas. Preschool children are not permitted, and a maximum of one older child may be accompanied per adult. Animals are also not allowed, with the exception of trained assistance dogs. In the event of an accident, visitors must immediately report it to security personnel and they will be liable for any damage caused, according to the information from smb.museum.
Public transport connections are well-equipped at the Kulturforum, with options via S-Bahn, subway, bus and regional train. This facilitates access to the event, which is important for art lovers and re-evaluation of modern architecture. The entry price is 6 euros, although time slot tickets are only available online in advance and capacities are limited, according to berlinmodern.org.
Current exhibitions in the Kulturforum
Parallel to the open construction site days, other interesting exhibitions will take place in the Cultural Forum. One of the highlights is the show “Many Shades of Grès,” which focuses on the French fashion designer Madame Grès. She is considered one of the most important pioneers of haute couture in the 20th century. There are also various other topics to discover, such as "Bizarre! The art history of the craziest word in the world" and "Of Luxury, Pleasure and Pain". The venue is presented by the Kunstgewerbemuseum Berlin in collaboration with the University of Applied Sciences, as berlin.de informs.
