Digital help for everyone: Digital Zebra” starts in Hellersdorf!
On Monday, October 6, 2025, an innovative project called “Digital Zebra” will be launched in the “Ehm Welk” central library in Hellersdorf-Nord. The kick-off event begins at 2:00 p.m. and is aimed at people of all ages who need support with digital topics. Help is offered for creating PDF documents, using apps safely and booking appointments online. With this project, the Center Library will be the first library in the district to offer such services. The advice is provided by a trained digital guide and the service is free and available without prior registration. A library card is not required. Service hours are Mondays from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Tuesdays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Wednesdays and Fridays from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. If successful, this could represent a significant step towards digital inclusion, as already berlin.de reported.
The “Digital Zebra” project was launched to address the challenges of the digital divide. In Berlin, access to modern devices and use of the Internet is often unevenly distributed, which particularly disadvantages people in areas such as administration, education and health. Therefore, “Digital-Zebra” not only offers individual support, but also workshops and events to promote digital skills. The 22 libraries of the Association of Berlin Public Libraries (VÖBB) are already part of this initiative, which is supported by the Berlin Senate and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), as explained on gemeinsamdigital.berlin.de.
Diverse offerings on site
The digital guides in the libraries are available to provide 20 to 30 hours of weekly support and help with the use of digital offerings, such as accessing citizen services or booking appointments online. A wide range of topics are covered, including reading e-prescriptions and setting ringtones. The measures to promote digital inclusion ensure that everyone, regardless of their educational background or technical knowledge, has access to the necessary information and technologies.
In addition to the new offerings in the “Ehm Welk” central library, numerous other libraries have already become contact points for digital education. The Berlin Central and State Library, the Berlin City Library and the Heinrich Schulz Library are just a few examples that are already offering their support. Interested citizens can find further information about the locations and the service times offered there at voebb.de.
The upcoming “Digital Zebra” project in Hellersdorf-Nord is another important step in the digital education and integration of the Berlin population. The goal is clear: to make digital participation tangible for all citizens.
