DFB video bosses are committed to the transfer of controversial scenes on the screens in football stadiums

DFB video bosses are committed to the transfer of controversial scenes on the screens in football stadiums

DFB video wave chief Jochen Drees is committed to transferring controversial scenes from Bundesliga games on the screens and video screens in the football stadiums. He is convinced that visual information in the stadium would lead to fans can better understand the decisions. The referee expert believes that this would be a clear improvement and works together with the German Football Association to alternatives, since the transfer is primarily responsible for the respective club or the stadium operator.

At the moment, it is considered transferring pictures to the fans' mobile devices using an app. However, a few questions still have to be clarified, especially with regard to the infrastructure such as WLAN in the stadium. Drees believes that this solution should be tried if it is technically implementable. However, it would be optimal if all spectators could see the scenes on the canvases.

In addition to the transfer of controversial scenes on the screens and video screens in the stadiums, the DFB also discusses the introduction of "Challenges". This is the possibility for coaches to request the video evidence. The World Association FIFA also employs this topic. Drees sees the Challenges as a supplement to the Var (Video Assistant Referee). However, there are still many open questions, such as the number of challenges per coach or the consequences of a successful challenge. Experiences with trainers have shown that a majority arise against challenges.

Overall, the further development of video evidence in football is discussed intensively. The aim is to better inform the fans about the decisions of the referees and create more transparency. It remains to be seen which solutions will ultimately prevail.
