Charlotte Pfeffer School: Sports Hall opened-a new room for movement!
On September 29, 2025, the district councilor for school and sports, Benjamin Fritz, informed about the Charlotte Pfeffer School, whose component 4, including the new sports hall, was officially handed over to school and sports on September 25, 2025. This handover took place after the successful completion of extensive renovation work that aims to offer students an improved place for exercise and sport. The sports hall can now be used by school, while the use by club sport is planned from November 1, 2025.
The therapy bath was particularly mentioned in the same component, the opening of which will take place at a later date due to the final hygienic exams. Fritz expressed his joy about the conclusion of another redevelopment milestone and referred to previous successes such as the opening of the paradise garden last year and the new multifunctional educational building (MEB), which was completed in the first half of 2025.
An innovative school location
The Charlotte Pfeffer School in Berlin-Mitte is more than just a school building-it is a funding campus for intellectual and physical development. The modernization and expansion began in 2022, after a long interruption of the project, which was faced with numerous challenges and surprising finds. The construction management managed to coordinate the many open construction sites and make necessary decisions. The aim was always to create a space that promotes learning, movement, therapy and personal development.
A central feature of the Charlotte Pfeffer School is your individual and barrier-free design. These aspects are crucial in order to meet the demands of all students, in particular in the context of the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Disabilities (UN-BRK), which was passed on December 13, 2006 and ratified in 2009. This convention pursues the goal of ensuring the participation of all people in social processes.
Including education in focus
The Conference of Ministers of Culture has adopted recommendations for inclusive education that offer an important basis for the Charlotte Pfeffer School. These recommendations aim to promote children together with and without disabilities. The prerequisite for this are, among other things, the qualification of the teachers and the accessibility of the buildings. The requirements include, for example, that classrooms, teachers and therapy rooms are barrier -free.
The school building guidelines emphasize the need for barrier-free sanitary facilities as well as a high-contrast and well-lit entrance area. The design of the outdoor facilities must also take into account the needs of people with disabilities, whereby parking spaces close to the entrance and wheelchair -safe floor coverings play a central role.
The Charlotte Pfeffer School consistently implements all of these requirements and ensures that both teachers and learners work in an environment that meets their individual needs. With a modern approach, the basis for inclusive education is laid here.
