Berlin education offensive: information exchange for future trainees!

The district mayor of Reinickendorf, Emine Demirbüken-Wegner (CDU), invites parents and children to an information event entitled “Paths into training” shortly before they graduate from school. The event will take place on Saturday, July 19, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the halls at Borsigturm, Am Borsigturm 2, 13507 Berlin. The aim is to offer prospective graduates and their parents valuable information about various training paths, dual study programs and transition opportunities into professional life.

There will be information stands from numerous training companies, institutions and advisory facilities on site, which will offer visitors the opportunity to ask questions and get to know the offers. Panel discussions in which various training courses are presented are also part of the program. Participating companies include BORSIG, the Bundeswehr, Caritas-Klinik Dominikus, the Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bund, dm drugstore, Euro Akademie, Fielmann, MAGO, Buderus and MediaMarkt.

Diverse training paths

During the event, the various training paths will also be highlighted, which include, among other things, dual training, which plays a central role in Germany. More than half of an age group choose this educational path, which combines both practical training in the company and theoretical lessons at vocational school. The duration of training actually varies between two and three years, in special cases even three and a half years is possible.

Dual vocational training provides crucial skills and qualifications for well-trained specialists. To do this, companies conclude a vocational training contract with the trainees and cover the costs of the training. The salary during training increases every year and is on average around a third of the starting salary for trained specialists. This form of training helps to ease the transition from school to working life and contributes to the high level of social acceptance and employability of graduates.

Overview of civil servant training

Another aspect that will be addressed at the information event is training in the civil service. These differ between technical and non-technical services and are structured differently depending on the school qualification. The training, known as “preparatory service,” typically lasts 2.5 to 3 years and integrates practical assignments and attendance at administrative schools. At least an intermediate level of education is often required at school.

On this day, parents and students have the wonderful opportunity to find out more about the various forms of vocational training, including the options for dual education. Admission to the event is free; prior registration is not required.

The event is organized in cooperation with the Euro Schools, the Berlin Youth Employment Agency and the Economic Development Department of the Reinickendorf District Office. You can also find out about the alternative training paths on the employment agency's website and the dual training system on the website of the Standing Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs.
