Berlin puts an end to Chaos: Auditors relies on uniform IT!

The Berlin Court of Auditors has taken an important step towards digitization by the first highest state authority to completely switch his IT to the standards of the state program "Oneit@Berlin". As is reported , this program aims at the standardization and transfer of information and communication technology (ICT) from Berlin authorities to the IT service provider ITDZ Berlin. This change is a voluntary step of the Court of Auditors, which was not obliged to modernize IT.

All jobs of the Auditors are now equipped with the so-called ICT workstation, which includes the BerlinPC. This offers uniform server services, software and hardware and enables cloud -based storage of programs and data in the ITDZ data center. The changeover, which took place in October and November of the previous year, also transferred the LAN and telephony of the Auditors to the new technology. These innovations allow flexible work so that employees use any computer and take their phone numbers to other jobs. Home office and mobility are also supported.

importance of digitization

Karin Klingen, President of the Court of Auditors, emphasizes the need for better digitization in Berlin administration. This opinion is also shared by Martina Klement, State Secretary for Digitization. It emphasizes the importance of switching to the BerlinPC for information security and accessibility. Dr. Maria Borelli, director of ITDZ Berlin, underlines the importance of IT centralization and standardization in order to create a future-proof IT infrastructure.

The measures for digitization and standardization of IT are not limited to the Court of Auditors. The Senate of Berlin decided on August 30, 2022 to centralize the ICT of the Senate administrations. By the end of 2024, around 8,000 jobs are to be handed over to the ITDZ Berlin, with the aim of converting a total of 15,000 jobs by the end of this legislative period. Iris Spranger, Senator for the Interior, Digitization and Sport, emphasizes the importance of these standardization measures for the expansion of digital civil services.

Development E-Government

The context of digitization in Berlin administration is supplemented by the increasing introduction of online services. According to Information from the Senate Chancellery, the number of applications from citizens is constantly increasing. Forms can now be filled in directly on the screen and signed electronically, which facilitates the transmission to the authorities. To support this process, various basic services are developed, which include digital applications, e-playment and service accounts.

The standardization of IT workstations and the consolidation of the country's server structure are part of these comprehensive measures that aim to ensure smooth processes in the administration. This strategy is accompanied by various major projects, including the introduction of electronic acts that is of nationwide importance and is the basis for modern and efficient administration.
