Altdöberner See: Tourist paradise from 2030 in Oberspreewald-Lausitz!
Oberspreewald-Lausitz, Deutschland - The Altdöberner See in Oberspreewald-Lausitz is expected to be not accessible to tourists before 2030. This was announced by Uwe Steinhuber, spokesman for the mining renover LMBV. The renovation of the lake is good and should be completed by this time. The bank embankment is currently being secured and the soil is compressed, while at the moment two flavor excavators are in use to flatten the bank. Another large device will be added this month to support the work.
The flood -related development of Lake Altdöberner, which originally emerged from the disused Greifenhain open -cast mine, is remarkable. The flooding of the rest of the hole began in 1998, and 90% was filled in August 2024. The end of the flood is planned for 2028, with the lake still under the mining renovation. The Altdöberner See has a size of 898 hectares and has a maximum depth of 67 meters.
active leisure opportunities and tourist infrastructure
Already now there are some active leisure opportunities on Lake Altdöberner. An asphalted farm path along the south bank is ideal for cycling. In addition, the Peninsula Prokes protrudes into the resulting lake, which further enriches the landscape. Parking facilities are available at the Randriegel viewpoint south of Altdöbern and at the “Yellow Ramp” viewpoint in Pritzen.
For future tourist development, comprehensive investments in the infrastructure are planned, with the focus on health, vitality and landscape culture. The efforts for an attractive tourist use are in line with the experiences of other mining lines in the region, such as the Berzdorfer See near Görlitz, which attracts many bathers and water sports enthusiasts from Poland and the Czech Republic. Maik Ulrich, head of the flooding center of the LMBV, highlights the growing importance of the mining lines for stabilizing river areas and emphasizes that former open -cast mine, like the Altdöberner See, stabilize the black magpie and the Spree even at low water.
information event
On September 20, a day of the open construction site on Lake Altdöberner will take place, which offers citizens the opportunity to find out about the current status of the renovation work. In view of the positive developments in recent years, while the more than 70 million cubic meters of mining in mining lines have been released on streams and rivers, the LMBV is optimistic about the further flooding and aftercare of the region.
The fascinating transformation of Lake Altdöberner shows how natural spaces that were once used for brown coal mining can be converted into attractive free time experiences for the coming generations. This development of the lake is an important step to create a new tourist destination in the Lausitzer Seenland.
