Alexianer Group takes over Sankt Gertrauden Hospital in Berlin-Wilmersdorf: A strong regional composite solution for medical care
Alexianers are committed to the well-being of the Sankt Gertrauden Hospital in Berlin-Wilmersdorf
In spring 2024, the talks between Sankt Gertrauden-Kilkenhaus GmbH and the Alexians began. These discussions were led to the effects of pandemic, rising operating costs and the upcoming hospital reform in response to the effects of pandemic. Originally, it was about cooperation opportunities that were quickly expanded when both sides recognized the potential of regional cooperation. For the Sankt Gertrauden Hospital, it was clear that the Alexians are an economically and structurally strong partner. Conversely, the hospital was able to add the Alexians with its established facility in the west of Berlin
The Alexian Group is one of the largest denominational carriers in the health and social economy with around 32,000 employees. They work in Berlin, Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt with seven somatic and psychiatric hospitals, several medical care centers and elderly aid institutions and employ over 5,000 people there.
The medical director of the Sankt Gertrauden Hospital, Prof. Dr. med. Jan Kaminsky, the integration into the Alexian Group sees as an opportunity to successfully adapt to the new health policy conditions and to ensure high -quality care in Wilmersdorf in the long term.
An important concern in cooperation was the continuity and securing of jobs for the employees of the Sankt Gertrauden Hospital. Dr. Christian von Klitzing, managing director of the Alexian Group, emphasized that patients can continue to count on the proven quality of the hospital. The hospital reform stipulates that hospitals specialize and network regionally. The St. Gertrauden Hospital is well positioned through cooperation with the Alexians in order to offer networked top medicine and grow together.
The Sankt Gertrauden Hospital looks back on a long history of high-quality medical care and is proud to continue this tradition under the leadership of the Alexians. The Alexians are characterized by their value-oriented corporate management and their social commitment, which fits perfectly with the philosophy of the Sankt Gertrauden Hospital and the Katharin sisters.
Michael Derksen, chairman of the board of the Regina Protmann Foundation and the general meeting of the Society of the Katharin sisters mbH, emphasized that the values of the Katharin sisters and the Alexians, especially love for people, were the basis for the conversations. The Katharin sisters will continue to actively support the development of the hospital as a minority shareholder.
dr. Hartmut Beiker, chairman of the Foundation Board of the Alexian Brothers, emphasized the importance of Christian providers in the German hospital landscape. As a large, stable and broad carrier, the Alexians can actively help shape the future and meet the challenges in the healthcare industry. The Katharin sisters and the Alexians, who have been serving medical and elderly care for centuries, will go new ground together.
Both partners assume that the contracts can be signed in August. The final takeover of the share depends on the approval of the Federal Cartel Office and the Diocese of Münster and is planned for January 1, 2025.
