75 years of German Federal Youth Ring: A Feast of Lived Democracy
The German Federal Youth Ring (DBJR) celebrated a huge anniversary! On October 25th, Pomp and celebrations were celebrated on October 25th in the Berlin Ver.di Federal Administration "75 years of democracy". A period in which the DBJR tirelessly campaigned for the interests of youth in Germany!
The event was a complete success and praised the tireless work of the youth associations since its foundation. Or as the chairman Wendelin Haag aptly put it: "Youth associations are workshops of democracy" . Not only are theoretical concepts discussed here, but young people learn to take responsibility every day!
A look back into history
The DBJR was foundedin the middle of the reconstruction of Germany: from October 1 to 3, 1949 in Altenberg. Josef Rommerskirchen (BDKJ) was elected first chairman, and his deputy was Erich Lindstaedt (SJD-Die Falken). an amalgamation that made it possible for young people to make themselves heard!
"In October 1949, the young people were not ready to just watch. They wanted to actively help shape!" Recalls Daniela Broda, the chairwoman of the DBJR. This young voice has fought for a place through the decades, and the DBJR is still fighting for the self -determination of the youth.

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier also spoke up and emphasized how important the DBJR was over the years: "In 75 years the German Federal Youth Ring has achieved a lot ... they mingle, make children and adolescents hear."
The ceremony was not only a review of a glorious past, but also a call to continue this important work. Prof. Dr. Susanne Baer, who in her keynote speech indicated the importance of the youth associations as "spaces for democratic learning" , warned that these places are essential for active life from democracy.
Overall, international guests from six partner youth rings were present and emphasized the need to protect the youth associations from the increasing threats from authoritarian regime. These voices from all over the world make it clear that the DBJR plays a major role not only nationally but also internationally!
The anniversary website 75 years. Particular attention was paid to topics such as gender equality and the effects of German division on today's youth work.
At the end of her speech, Daniela Broda addressed a powerful outlook on the future: "Youth associations will continue to be locations in which democracy will be lived." and Wendelin Haag underlined this vision: "Together we will also master the upcoming challenges." End!
