Child and youth participation: One step into the future of the municipalities

The participation of children and adolescents in municipal matters not only represents a legal obligation, but is also of central importance for the development of a lively democratic culture. In this context, a two-day conference entitled "Ask yourself!- Child and youth participation from childhood" will take place on October 07 and 08, 2024. The aim of this event is to find ways of how young people can be actively involved in the design of their environment.

The Baden-Württemberg municipal code (§ 41a) stipulates that children and adolescents are adequately involved in planning and project in their community. This means that not only your opinions belongs, but also have to be actively involved in decision -making processes. Such participation helps children and adolescents get involved and take responsibility for their community. The conference aims to promote participatory learning processes and to create synergies between various actors, including educational policy institutions and local government.

The speakers include numerous experts who are involved in this area, including Angelika Barth from the State Center for Political Education and Dominik Bär of "Child -friendly municipalities" in Berlin. These experts bring their experiences and project results to advance the idea of active participation in young people. Their input is crucial to develop innovative project ideas that strengthen both the learning to participate and democracy in the municipalities.

The event is aimed particularly at specialists and volunteers who work in child and youth work or are political for young people's interests. The importance of this conference goes beyond pure knowledge transfer; It should also contribute to a long -term culture of listening and taking into account the concerns of young people in the municipalities.

The commitment to child and youth participation is an important step towards promoting democracy and social responsibility. By involving the voices of young people, communities not only create a better understanding of their needs, but also promote positive identification with their own community. The realization that their opinions not only belongs, but also incorporated into decisions, strengthens self -confidence and social commitment to these young people.
