Science in society: Leadership Academy promotes management skills of researchers

The Klaus Tschira Foundation is promoting the Leadership Academy organized by the German Scholar's organization for the eighth time. The Leadership Academy is a training program that aims to strengthen scientists in their leadership skills and at the same time build a network in Germany. The program is aimed at researchers who live abroad or recently returned to Germany. 25 fellows are selected for a full scholarship every year. The curriculum comprises two five -day presence phases and digital meetings in between. The content ranges from classic leadership tools to self -reflection and practicing case studies to conflicts and diversity. In the interview, Anne Schreiter, managing director of German Scholar's organization, explains how the Leadership Academy was created and what distinguishes the fellows. In addition, the evaluation of the program is discussed, in which it was found that 84 percent of the participants are still in contact with the other fellows.

The Leadership Academy was already recognized in 2017 as an example of good practice in the field of "Innovation International Thinking" and is considered unique in Germany. The support of the Klaus Tschira Foundation shows the appreciation for this target group and emphasizes the importance of leadership skills for future science and innovation culture in Germany.

The training program will continue at least three more years. Applications for the eighth Leadership Academy can still be submitted until April 23, 2024. The second presence phase will take place for the first time in Heidelberg at the Klaus Tschira Foundation.

The German Scholars Organization e.V. (GSO) was founded in 2003 by scientists and company representatives and is committed to scientists who strive for a career in Germany. In addition to the Leadership Academy, the GSO also organizes the Klaus Tschira Boost Fund for Postdocs and Dr. Wilhelmy-GSO travel expenses program.

The Klaus Tschira Foundation was launched in 1995 by the physicist and SAP co-founder Klaus Tschira. The foundation promotes natural sciences, mathematics and computer science and is committed to dialogue between science and society. Further information can be found on the foundation's website.
