Volkspark at the vineyard playground: renovation and accessibility on the popular playground
The playground on the Weinbergsweg in Berlin Mitte is subjected to a comprehensive renovation in order to improve the attractiveness and accessibility for all age groups. After 20 years of intensive use, the play equipment is urgently needed. The district councilor Christopher Schriner announced that the construction work will officially begin on September 2, 2024.
The main goal of the renovation is to increase the quality of the playground and carry out important maintenance work. A special focus is on enabling barrier -free use. For example, a new climbing tower with wheelchair access for small children is installed. In addition, fixed deposits around popular play equipment such as the nest swing and the carousel are laid to offer wheelchair users more freedom of movement.
In addition, the paths on the playground are redesigned to improve the overall accessibility. Existing obstacles are eliminated to enable wheelchair users to move a problem -free movement. The entire sand area of the playground is also renewed to ensure a safe game environment.
In addition to the playing areas, the football field will also experience a modernization. A new rubber liner is laid and the ball trap fence is sound insulated to reduce the noise pollution for the residents. The table tennis panels receive a new concrete paving base that offers a flat play area without puddling.
For older children and adolescents, a new relaxation area is created, which is also equipped with a new floor covering. Existing wooden structures are revised, and additional seating create space to relax and linger for visitors of all ages.
The Mitte district invests a total of around 400,000 euros in the redesign of the playground. While the planned construction work, which is expected to take four months, the playground remains completely closed. The reopening is planned for the end of 2024 when the work is completed.
