goals of the day of open society
The day of open society (TDOG) has been taking place annually on the third Saturday in June since 2017 and has established itself as a platform to promote diversity and cohesion. With the motto "Celebrate!" the TDOG should open new perspectives and strengthen the exchange between the participants. The open society initiative wants to create a counterweight to destructive moods in public debates and invites around 30,000 citizens to discuss together and reduce prejudices every year.
To support the talks, a dialog box with various hands-on materials such as games and questions is provided. This should help to make the discussions lively and open to the discussion.
cultural integration and social change
The initiative of cultural integration, funded by the Minister of Culture, underlines the need for an open society that arises from the challenges of migration, climate change and geopolitical changes. Social change requires openness, respect, recognition and tolerance to shape living together in a diverse society.
migration movements have shaped German society and require a common deal with these challenges in order to reduce fears and hostilities. The initiative promotes a cosmopolitan society based on the values of the Basic Law and supports the social participation of all people in Germany - regardless of their origin.
The day of open society is therefore not only a celebration of diversity, but also an important forum for the exchange and understanding between cultures. The event actively contributes to strengthening social cohesion and enables dealing with central values of our society.
