Pankow traffic turn: Langhansstrasse is becoming safer and greener!
The district office Pankow has announced an extensive participation initiative for a new traffic and mobility concept in the renovation and funding area Langhansstrasse. These events aim to improve the traffic situation in Langhans-Kiez and to increase the quality of life for residents. The main event, which is designed as a workshop, will take place on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the Heinz Brandt School, Langhansstrasse 120. The project is supported by the team of experts Hoffmann Lighter and Group Planwerk, which has already developed concrete proposals for measures that will cover the various aspects of traffic calming, traffic safety, accessibility, quality of stay and greening.
Another goal of this initiative is to reduce the loads from car traffic. Currently, noise and air pollution from car and commercial transport in the region are high. There is also a lack of secure cycling systems and safe crossing options for pedestrians. The public space is strongly divided in favor of motorized traffic, so that the space for encounter and climate -adapted design is missing. Therefore, foot and bicycle traffic is given a high priority, while the overall traffic situation is to be improved.
Further dates and online participation
After the main event for the presentation of the first results on September 23, additional dates are also planned in the district shop, Jacobsohnstraße 21. Here residents can see the results:
- Mittwoch, 24. September 2025, 14:00 – 18:00 Uhr
- Donnerstag, 25. September 2025, 14:00 – 18:00 Uhr
- Freitag, 26. September 2025, 10:00 – 13:00 Uhr
- Samstag, 27. September 2025, 10:00 – 14:00 Uhr
In addition to the attendance participation, there will be an online participation on my.berlin.de for three weeks from September 24, 2025 to obtain as many opinions as possible.
Remodeling in Langhanskiez
In parallel to these activities, a redesign of Langhansstrasse in Berlin-Weißensee is also sought. This is intended to improve the framework conditions for foot and bike traffic and increase the quality of stay. In the course of this, new green areas are also created. A current residential project with 17 condominiums will also be realized on Langhansstrasse. Among other things, the conversion of Heinersdorfer Straße to a bicycle and Klimastraße is planned, which is also associated with a reduction in the number of car parking spaces.
The plans provide for pedestrians and cyclists to get more space, while numerous roads are converted into one -way streets and certain areas are blocked for car traffic, especially in front of schools and daycare centers. This offers a direct way to improve traffic safety, which is to be realized by new zebra crossings, middle islands and protected wheel strips.
Long -term transport policy in Berlin
As part of these initiatives, Berlin is based on the goals of the Urban Development Plan Mobility and Transport (Step Move), which was decided by the Berlin Senate. This provides to increase the proportion of the environmental association, consisting of foot and cycling and local public transport, from 74% to 82% by 2030, which is intended to result in a significant reduction in motorized private transport. The aim is to ensure a socially just, ecologically sustainable and economically sensible mobility in the capital.
Through these various measures and the close integration of the residents, the aim is to increase the quality of life in Berlin and to establish a future -proof transport policy. At the latest with the establishment of the new concepts, a clear improvement in the traffic situation in the affected areas is to be achieved.
