Susan Donath, born in Apolda in 1979, was just eleven years old when the wall fell. Her remarkable work “Urne (Work in Progress)” from 2009 illuminates the life of her grandparents and parents behind the Iron Curtain twenty years later. There are many questions in the room: What happened in the past? How did you live in the shadow of the Stasi? Access to her family's Stasi files raises some hurdles and makes your research anything but easy. In this inspiring conversation, Donath will not only give insights into her artistic practice, but will also report on her very personal motivation.
