Gigabit capital Berlin: OXG and district mayor agree on fiber optic expansion
The district mayor Oliver Igel and the CEO of OXG, Dr. Sören Trebst, have signed a joint declaration of intent to promote quick and targeted FTTH expansion in Treptow-Köpenick. This measure will offer residents in the district a future -proof infrastructure and stable internet connections without incurring costs. The OXG fiber optic network will be designed as an open access network, which enables a large selection of providers and products.
Digitization is a main goal of the federal government, whereby nationwide fiber optic networks are to be created in Germany by 2030. Treptow-Köpenick receives good news in this context, since OXG Glasfaser GmbH, as one of Berlin's strategy partners, will build a large fiber optic network in the district. Of the planned 900,000 fiber optic connections across Berlin, more than 43,400 will be created in Treptow-Köpenick.
