Memory of persecuted: New exhibition on Schöneberg and Tempelhof

Incredible! In 1920 Groß-Berlin saw the light of the world and with it the districts of Schöneberg and Tempelhof. These two districts became the scene of courageous visions and exciting political arguments in the early Weimar Republic. Women and men from a wide variety of parties moved into the district meetings, convinced of their power to steer the city's fortunes. But the shadow of National Socialism soon fell on this political coexistence.

From 1933, a number of MPs were confronted with a brutalist machinery of exclusion and persecution, regardless of whether they were discriminated against for racist or political reasons. The dream of a democratic participation expired for many who once fought enthusiasm for their beliefs.

A touching exhibition reveals the truth

Now light comes into the dark: an upset exhibition has set itself the task of tracing the moving fates of 16 persecuted MPs. This impressive documentation not only shows individual biographies, but also makes the political breaks visible that shaped the lives of these people. A call to memory - and to think!

This project also leaves empty spaces that embody the unfinished history of these MPs. At the same time, it becomes clear how important it is to keep such memories awake and to illuminate the darkest chapters in German history.

where can I see the exhibition?

The exhibition can be visited at different locations: in the foyer of the Schöneberg town hall, in the exhibition rooms of "We were neighbors" and in front of the Tempelhof town hall. A true mosaic of memories that stimulates every visitor to pause and reflect.

A catalog of the same name, which is available from the Tempelhof-Schöneberg museums, is available for all those who want to dive deeper into the matter. Do not miss this opportunity and discover the story that many could never tell!
