Recycling of old cell phones: Dispose of valuable resources properly!
In many households there are still old, no longer used cell phones, which contain valuable resources such as gold, silver, copper, platinum and palladium. These resources can be recycled if the cell phones are disposed of properly. A contribution to recycling is also a contribution to the protection of the environment and human rights, since many raw materials are obtained under very bad conditions.
District Mayor Emine Demirbüken-Wegner (CDU) is pleased that the first collection point in the fox district in the town hall will find its place. In addition to the successful glasses collection campaign, the district office is now also involved in the collection campaign for old cell phones. Old mobile phones without a battery can be handed in at the gates in the entrance area of the Reinickendorf town hall. A great way to promote sustainable life and action in Reinickendorf.
The collected mobile phones are generally recycled. A few cell phones are reprocessed. The proceeds from the collection campaign flow into the project "Water knows no limits", which is supported by Inkota partner organizations in El Salvador and Guatemala. This organization has set itself the task of tackling the fight against hunger, poverty and global justice.
Currently only cell phones are collected without a battery. Individual batteries can be handed in, for example, in specialist shops or the BSR. Further information can be found on the Berlin Recycling website. In addition, unused glasses can continue to be handed in in the glasses box in the town hall foyer.
This action is not only an initiative for sustainable resource use, but also an important step to tackle global problems such as water pollution in the course of raw material removal. It is encouraging to see how local communities are committed to such initiatives and thus make a positive contribution to the environment and global justice.
