Cleaning walk in the Allende district: Active together against racism!
On October 17, 2025, the BENN team Allende-Viertel, the Center for Democracy and the Treptow-Köpenick Register invite you to a cleaning walk. The event begins at 4:30 p.m. at the bus stop of Köpenick Hospital (DRK Kliniken), south side. The main goal of this commitment is the removal of racist, discriminatory and extreme right-wing graffiti and stickers in the Allende district. Material for removal will be provided and the event is scheduled to conclude at around 6 p.m. in a warm location to provide space for exchange and networking. Participation is free of charge and anyone interested can contact us in advance or later by calling 0176 – 58 88 50 44.
BENN, which stands for “Berlin Develops New Neighborhoods”, has been supporting neighborly coexistence in neighborhoods that provide accommodation for refugees since 2017. The initiative is supported by the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Housing in cooperation with the district office. The BENN office in the Allende district also acts as a contact point for racist or discriminatory incidents and allows anonymous reporting of such incidents.
BENN's goals and projects
The BENN team is actively committed to promoting cohesion in the neighborhood. The projects supported include cooking evenings, creative cafés, garden projects and neighborhood festivals. These initiatives help to enrich neighborhood life and promote exchange among one another. BENN has an annual budget to support neighborhood improvement ideas both organizationally and financially. The office is located at Pohlestrasse 4, 12557 Berlin-Köpenick and offers advice on other neighborhood projects.
In a broader context, it should be noted that the “Municipal alliances and strategies against racism and hate” project, funded by the Integration Commissioner, has existed since 2022. This aims to support employees and managers in local administration in dealing with racist hostility. Minister of State Reem Alabali-Radovan emphasizes the importance of responding appropriately to hatred and racism in the administration. As part of this project, around 80 municipal alliances were formed nationwide that initiated specific projects to combat racism and hate, adapted to local circumstances. These include new service agreements and strategic concepts for establishing an anti-racist administration.
These different approaches make it clear how important cooperation in civil society is in order to promote respectful and tolerant coexistence. The activities in the Allende district and the overarching projects of the integration officers make a significant contribution to actively counteract racism and strengthen diversity in society.
