Psychotherapeutic training in danger: Federal government must act!

scandal in health policy: psychotherapy training in the crisis!

Yesterday the demonstration fire burned in Berlin: around 300 angry students, psychotherapeutic young people and representatives of important chambers and associations marched on the streets! Your motto? "Finance psychotherapy further training - now!" The situation is dramatic: psychotherapeutic care in Germany is on the brink and the federal government is watching!

are we standing in front of a pile of broken glass just because the crucial politicians slept in the reform of psychotherapy training in 2019? The financing of further training apparently simply went under! To date, there is no legal rules that ensure the necessary further training positions in practices, clinics and outpatient clinics. A massive mistake that could have fatal consequences!

a race against the time

The clock ticks! From the coming year, over 1,000 graduates of the new license courses will be looking for specialist training every year. What does that mean? Hundreds of freshly tested therapists could be on the street without further training, while over 2,000 practices are ready to offer the required places! But without a legal regulation everything is on the brink - a certificate of poverty for health policy!

Experts warn: "If no quick action takes place, there will soon be no more psychotherapeutic offspring. And then? Then people will be there without help!" Dr. Johanna Thünker, board member of the section of psychological psychotherapists (VPP) in the BDP, is alerted and demands that the federal government will finally become active. A solution still has to be found in this legislative period - otherwise there is a risk of supply gaps that can have far -reaching consequences!

fear for the future

The uncertainty among the prospective therapists is tangible. Madlen Matschey, a representative of the psychotherapeutic youngsters in the VPP, sums it up: "The first graduates are just around the corner, and fear is great! What if they do not find any space for their specialist training?" This is more than understandable - without the possibility of further training, the graduates are stuck!

The Petitions Committee of the German Bundestag has already urged to take this problem. The federal politicians are now on the train! The law to strengthen health care (GVSG) is only waiting to be treated in the health committee. Time is pushing, and those affected demand determined solutions!
