Protest in Mainz: 120 demonstrators are calling for resignation of the DB Cargo Board

At a protest rally in Mainz, around 120 people called for the resignation of the board of DB Cargo. The railway and transport union (EVG), together with the employees of DB Cargo, made a job against the decisions of the board. The latter plans to move the combined traffic from the headquarters in Mainz to four subsidiaries, which would result in the loss of more than 1,500 jobs, including around 150 in Mainz alone. The works councils of the subsidiaries and the EVG unanimously reject this plan, as it is unclear whether enough qualified employees are available on the labor market. At its federal board meeting in Fulda, the EVG asked the DB Cargo board member to change its course, otherwise those responsible would no longer be portable.

The protest rally in Mainz is part of the union's wider struggle against the decisions of the DB Cargo board member. The planned shift of combined traffic from the headquarters in Mainz on four subsidiaries is a big blow to the region. In addition to the loss of more than 1,500 simple jobs, valuable specialist knowledge would also be lost. It is questionable whether the subsidiaries would find enough qualified employees because there is a strong shortage of skilled workers on the job market.

The Cargo board is criticized for its ruthless approach and accused of ignoring the say in the employees. The company's misery is blamed on the employees instead of the board of directors admits its own failures. The EVG and the business council of the subsidiaries are closed against this attitude and ask the board to rethink its plans.

The EVG unanimously decided at its federal board meeting in Fulda that those responsible for the Cargo board are no longer portable if they do not change their course. This decision shows the union's determination of standing up for the interests of the employees and taking the board of directors into account.
