New impulses for the East German pharmaceutical industry: Foundation of the Landesverband East

In a pioneering decision, Pharma Germany launched the regional association East on September 9, 2024 in Berlin. This initiative aims to promote the strengthening of the pharmaceutical industry in the East German federal states and create a platform for strategic exchange.

The newly founded association is made by Dr. Andreas Eberhorn, who heads Dermapharm AG. His choice is seen as a sign of self -confidence and the ambitions of the East German pharmaceutical industry. "We are here to position the region as a strong partner in global pharmaceutical landscape," said Dr. Eberhorn in his inaugural speech.

The importance of this association for the entire region is undisputed. Experts emphasize that robust pharmaceutical industry is crucial for economic growth, employment and prosperity. Nora Schmidt-Kesseler, managing director of the Chemical Industry Association for the Northeast region, emphasizes that this structure is a strong alliance within the pharmaceutical family and is supposed to bundle the innovative strength of the East German industry.

East Germany has a long tradition in drug production and, above all, offers great potential for innovations through modern biotech clusters and excellent research institutions. The association sees it as its task to combine these location advantages with an offensive policy for international networking and cultural diversity. "Our region must not be isolated, we live from an open market," emphasizes Dr. Eberhorn.

The new network of six regional associations, which is now supplemented by the Landesverband Ost, is a strategic measure to specifically represent the pharmaceutical interests at the state and federal level. With more than 30 companies, the association represents the entire diversity of the industry in the eastern federal states.

The founding of the Landesverband East is not only seen as a step towards better advocacy in politics, but also as a sign of change and renewal for the entire industry. "We lay the foundation for a successful future," adds Dorothee Brakmann, managing director of Pharma Germany, and emphasizes the need to capture the diverse facets of the German pharmaceutical landscape and to respond more precisely to the needs of the region.

Overall, the founding of the Landesverband Ost is an important moment for the actors of the East German pharmaceutical industry. The parties involved are confident that this new structure and commitment of the members will gain the region globally as a significant location for pharmaceutical innovations.
