Waste disposal made easy: neighborhood days in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf!
On October 24, 2025, an important environmentally friendly event will take place in Berlin in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. On the occasion of the BSR-Kieztage, organized by the Education for Sustainable Development Office (SBNE) in cooperation with the Berliner Stadtreinigung (BSR), the association “Miteinander im Kiez e.V.” and GEWOBAG, citizens have the opportunity to dispose of their bulky waste and other recyclables free of charge. This initiative aims to promote the responsible use of resources while contributing to cleanliness in the city.
The Kieztage will take place on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Hofackerzeile in the Paul-Hertz settlement and on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Leon-Jessel-Platz. In addition to accepting furniture and electrical appliances, residents also have the opportunity to pass on items in good condition at a swap market. However, some waste, such as construction waste, car tires and liquid pollutants, are not accepted.
Enjoyable learning and interactive programs
The program offers a colorful supporting program on both days. On the first day, visitors can relax with coffee and cake, while the AWO sewing café invites you to repair clothes. Local initiatives are also represented that deal with topics such as environmental protection and social concerns. There are play opportunities for younger visitors, which are organized by the Jungfernheide Family Center.
On the second day, an interactive simulation game on the topic of “Right to Repair” is planned. Here the participants are familiarized with the topic of sustainable use. The SBNE separation mobile will also be presented, which enables waste to be separated and collected directly on site and can also be rented free of charge for events. Together, these offerings will help raise awareness of the need for sustainable waste management and encourage participation in recycling activities.
A broader context: zero waste society
The BSR Kieztage are part of a larger strategy to promote a zero-waste society in cities. The idea of such a society is central to sustainable urban development, as stated by nadr.de executed. The aim is to reduce the amount of waste and use resources more efficiently. This includes the introduction of separate waste disposal systems and the promotion of the circular economy.
Citizens can actively participate in this process by taking part in neighborhood days, separating waste and taking part in other environmental protection activities. The BSR has been carrying out selective actions since 2019 and plans to expand the concept to all districts of Berlin. The implementation of up to 250 Kiez Days by 2023 shows the seriousness of the efforts to create a clean and sustainable city.
Overall, BSR Kieztag will provide an opportunity for Berlin citizens to not only act in an environmentally friendly manner, but also to learn more about recycling and sustainable practices and integrate them into their everyday lives.
