Berlin grows: 500 new apartments and cultural center in Tempelhof!
On March 25, 2025, the Berlin Senate decided to draft the development plan for the new city district "Neue Mitte Tempelhof". This project, which extends over an area of around 21,100 square meters, includes the creation of 500 apartments and a new cultural and education center. The ruling mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) described this as a positive signal for the districts of Tempelhof-Schöneberg and all over Berlin, as it should contribute to the increase in quality of life.
The planned facilities in this new city district are diverse. In the cultural and education center there will be space for a district central library, a adult education center and a music school. In addition, institutions for seniors and young people are also intended. This includes the construction of a new scout home that is planned for 2027, as well as an expansion of the Tempelhof town hall and a replacement building of the Tempelhof city pool.
planned infrastructure and schedule
The development plan also provides for the creation of around 22,400 square meters for public parks with playgrounds. Senator for urban development, building and living, Christian Gaebler, announced that the design of the development plan must be presented to the House of Representatives for approval. With regard to the construction schedule, the first section of the apartments will begin in 2026, while the new construction of the police department 4 is planned for 2028.
This measure is part of a larger plan of the city to develop a total of two dozen new city quarters in Berlin. The new district not only creates living space, but also important social and cultural infrastructure that is adapted to the needs of the residents. The project also includes the expansion of green and relaxation areas to offer residents a better living environment.
