The sports facility at Fischerstraße 15 in Berlin-Lichtenberg will in future bear the name "Paul-Kalkbrenner-Sportfeld". This renaming goes back to an initiative of SV Sparta Lichtenberg 1911 e.V., the association, which the internationally known musician Paul Kalkbrenner can demonstrate a longstanding connection. The name rights were granted as part of a name lease agreement, the signing of which has already been made. The district office Lichtenberg, owner of the sports facility, manages them in cooperation with the district and sports office of the district.
SV Sparta Lichtenberg, the main user of the facility, is pleased about the name change, which will be celebrated as part of a festive renaming event on September 27, 2025. Paul Kalkbrenner will open the event together with representatives of the association and the district councilor for school and sport, Sandy Mattes. Mattes is enthusiastic about the naming and emphasizes that this is a novelty for Berlin.
The benefit game
To celebrate the new stadium name, a benefit game between a selection of SV Sparta Lichtenberg and a team from Kalkbrenner will be played. Mathias Geyer, the club's football department head, explained that Paul Kalkbrenner is not only known as a musician, but also as a former Sparta player. Kalkbrenner wore the club's jersey in his youth and remains close to the friends and schoolmates at the time, which are still active today.
There are 1,200 tickets available for the benefit game, whereby entry is free. The renaming of the sports field will apply for a period of five years. Details on the financial aspects of the contract have not been announced, but it is believed that the use of the name is due.
