Daycare sports festival inspires: children defy autumn in the enchanted forest!
On November 5, 2025, in the Treptow-Köpenick district, the second daycare sports festival took place, which was initiated by the district councilor for youth. The event, which was held at two locations, attracted many children and was a complete success. The first two days of the festival took place in the Kosmosviertel on October 22nd and 23rd, followed by further activities in the Köllnische Vorstadt on October 29th and 30th, 2025.
The children had the opportunity to complete an exciting parkour through the “magic forest”. Activities included crawling through caves, walking around magic trees, catching frogs in a pond, and sliding down into the valley after climbing a mountain. All participants in the event received a medal to recognize their achievements. The daycare sports festival was supported by clubs such as Schlaufuchs e.V. and the state sports association, as well as the district's social space-oriented planning coordination.
Importance of exercise for development
Youth City Councilor André Grammelsdorff emphasized the central role of exercise in children's development. In view of the increasing problem of lack of exercise, especially since the Corona pandemic, the promotion of sporting activities in daycare centers is becoming increasingly important. The trend shows that, on average, the level of physical activity among children and young people is steadily decreasing, which is alarming.
The concept of the “moving daycare center”, which is also to be further promoted through the planned daycare sports festivals in 2026, aims to provide space for an active lifestyle. The legal right to all-day school care, which will come into force in 2026, will also underline the need to establish long-term exercise concepts in daycare centers and schools, as the Sportjugend Hessen describes it.
Strengthen collaboration
In the current discussion about exercise and sport, the focus is also on networking sports clubs, daycare centers and schools. The exchange between these institutions is considered essential to improve children's access to exercise. The action day, which includes theoretical input as well as practical workshops, is aimed at educational specialists and those interested in exercise in order to promote an active everyday life.
Planning for further daycare sports festivals is already underway to support even greater participation by daycare centers and their cooperation partners. The invitation to participate will be issued early so that preparations for the events during the Easter or fall holidays of 2026 can begin soon.
