Fight against garbage: public order office takes action in Reinickendorf!
On October 20, 2025, the field service of the Reinickendorf public order office carried out a concentrated check against small-scale waste. This measure was carried out at three specifically selected locations in the district and is part of a broader initiative to improve cleanliness in public spaces.
During the two-hour operation, several violations of the garbage regulations were punished. A total of 30 notices were issued for the careless throwing away of cigarette butts, including two notices for unauthorized special use. The inspectors also had to issue eight expulsions against unruly offenders. Such measures illustrate the seriousness of the issue, as discarded cigarette butts, tissues and small rubbish represent at least as serious an environmental problem as larger accumulations of rubbish.
Environmental problems caused by cigarette butts
Cigarette filters, which are usually made of plastic and contain toxic residues, are particularly problematic. According to berlin.de, throwing away cigarette butts makes disposal more difficult, especially in small pavements. This problem is prevalent in urban areas where cleanliness and environmental protection are becoming increasingly important.
The campaign is part of the “Clean City” project, which was launched by the Reinickendorf district office. The aim is to improve environmental awareness among citizens and to promote a more sustainable and responsible approach to waste in public spaces. Such measures are intended to raise awareness of one's own responsibility with regard to cleanliness and environmental protection.
The results of this inspection are a clear call to citizens to handle their waste responsibly. Only through joint action can the goal of a clean and livable city be achieved.
