Last year, 58 innocent people in Berlin had to spend a total of 4,803 days behind bars. In 2022, 35 people were compensated for a total of 2,624 days, in 2021 there were 54 people for 6,936 days. The judicial authority makes it clear that the payment of compensation does not necessarily indicate the illegality of the detention measures. Compensation can be due even if the conviction, especially if the pre -trial detention takes longer than the final sentence.
