Julian Weber: The javelin throwing hero is aiming for gold in Tokyo!

Julian Weber, the 30-year-old javelin thrower from USC Mainz, is facing a crucial phase in his sports career. He has established himself as the world's best javelin thrower with a remarkable best of 91.06 meters achieved on May 16, 2025 in Doha. This outstanding performance gives him a special boost in his preparation for the upcoming one World Athletics Championships, which will take place in Tokyo on September 18, 2025.

Weber, who grew up in a handball family, began his sporting career in handball, but showed early talent in throwing. He won the World Junior Games in ball throwing in 2005 and qualified for the German U18 Championships in 2011. A thumb injury in 2012 led to a crucial switch to javelin, in which he won gold at the 2013 U20 European Championships.

Successes and challenges

However, his path to success was not without challenges. He finished ninth at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, while he placed fourth at the 2021 Olympics and the 2022 and 2023 World Championships. From 2021 to 2025 he became German champion five times in a row and has crowned his career so far with the title of European champion in 2022. He was able to confirm this title at the competition in Dresden, where he left the competition behind with 84.36 meters. Aside from the training he completed in Potsdam, Weber is studying business administration at Humboldt University. He lives with his fiancée in Berlin and is preparing intensively for the challenge in Tokyo.
