Foxes Berlin: Defeat in Gummersbach and unrest in the club!
The Füchse Berlin suffered their second defeat in the Bundesliga on September 14, 2025. They lost against VfL Gummersbach 29:34 after already losing against SC Magdeburg. The new coach Nicolej Krickau is still without a point, which increases the unrest within the club. Axel Lange, the Füchse's advisory board, said that 60 to 70 percent of the players are demanding a change in the coaching position, which indicates a deeper crisis situation in the team.
Already at the beginning of the game it became clear that the foxes in Gummersbach would have massive difficulties. After only five minutes, the foxes scored the first goal, while Gummersbach continued to score and quickly took the lead with 11: 3. Mathias Gidsel with ten goals and Tim Freihofer with four goals were the best throwers in the foxes, but their performances could not stop the frustrating course of the game.
Weak start and missing consequence
After ten minutes, the Berlin team was already 2: 8 behind. Gummersbach was able to score in almost every attack, which also put the fox under pressure. Despite several changes, including the goalkeeper change to Lasse Ludwig, the turn failed. Five minutes before the break, the gap was already eight goals (8:16), and even after the change of sides, the foxes did not find their way back into the game. A 1: 5 run of the opponents finally let the foxes go into the final phase of the game with a gap of nine goals (20:29).
The Gummersbachers were able to dominate the game by presenting a strong team performance and especially by the convincing goalkeeper Bertram Obling. Dejan Milosavljev, the Foxes' goalkeeper, only made his first save after 40 minutes. In the end, the Foxes reduced the deficit somewhat, but the defeat was already sealed and was the first defeat in Gummersbach in eleven years. With this victory, Gummersbach celebrated their third win of the season.
Criticism and perspectives
The situation in the foxes is not only a challenge in the sporting area, but could also have psychological effects on the team. Sports psychology increasingly plays a role in handball, and experts like Henning Thrien and André Haber have emphasized that the topic of communication and psychological support is often neglected, especially in the event of a team. This could offer the foxes a valuable perspective to improve their performance.
After a difficult start to the season, the Füchse Berlin don't have much time to recover. There are more games coming up in which the pressure will increase to collect points in the Bundesliga in order to stabilize the position in the title fight as quickly as possible.
