The European Union plans several important dates in the coming days that could also have an impact on Germany. On Sunday, February 25th, the 13th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO) will take place in Abu Dhabi, in which EU Commission members will take part. The aim of the conference is to achieve important results in the areas of WTO reform, fishing subsidies, trade and agriculture, digital trade and sustainability. Combating climate change will also be an issue. The EU will also hold an event together with other partners to show solidarity with Ukraine, two years after the start of the Russian attack war against the country.
On Monday, February 26th, the meeting of the Council for Agriculture and Fishing will take place in Brussels. The agenda includes the discussion about the current crisis in the agricultural sector as well as meetings for the safety and vaccination of farm animals. The EU Commission will also explain the use of the digital system Catch.
In Brussels there is also an informal conference of the Minister for Equality, in which EU Commissioner Helena Dalli participates. At the meeting, the results and knowledge to promote equality between women and men are discussed, as well as the EU strategy for equality for the period 2020-2025.
In Strasbourg, the European Parliament meets from Tuesday, February 26 to Thursday, February 29th. The agenda includes discussions about the European Central Bank, political advertising, the directive for platform employees and inflation in food prices. In addition, the high representative of foreign and security policy, Josep Borrell, will talk about the war in the Gaza Strip. The European Parliament will also vote on several proposals for resolution, including EU measures to support political prisoners in Russia and the situation in Cuba.
In Luxembourg, the European Court of Justice will announce three judgments to finance the Fehmarnbelt crossing. A German company had sued a decision by the EU Commission, which had declared the public financing model for the crossing between Denmark and Germany for compatible with the EU Aid Provisions.
Margrethe Vestager, the Vice President of the European Commission, will give a speech at the International Cartel Conference in Berlin. The conference offers experts the opportunity to discuss current problems of competition policy and competition law.
In Brussels there is also an informal conference of the Minister of Education. The ministers will discuss educational topics.
The European Parliament will complete its plenary conference in Strasbourg. The agenda includes discussions about the trade agreement between the EU and Chile and an explanation of the Commission on the availability of medical devices. It is also coordinated with the need for an unbreakable EU support for Ukraine and the deepening of EU integration.
The European Court of Justice will have a judgment on reimbursement of travel expenses in the event of a pandemie -related resignation. A German couple had resigned from a trip to Japan because of the Corona pandemic and asked for the reimbursement of the costs.
Finally, an event will take place in Berlin on the reform of the European Union, in which the MEP Helmut Scholz will talk about the possibilities of the EU contract change.
