Invitation to encounters: Discover Berlin's history and commitment!
On October 9, 2025, the district mayor of Mitte, Stefanie Remlinger, announced in a press release two significant events that will take place as part of the Berlin Democracy Day and the Berlin Volunteer Days. These initiatives, which are organized by the Mitte district office, are primarily intended to strengthen civic engagement and promote social cohesion. The Volunteer Agency Mitte plays a key role here by offering both placement of volunteer work and advice for volunteers.
The first event, a historical city walk entitled “Experience Migration as Berlin History”, will take place on September 16, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. The meeting point is Borsigstraße 5, 10115 Berlin. The tour focuses on migration to Berlin around 1900 and draws parallels to today. Aspects such as rent and housing disputes, self-help campaigns and solidarity initiatives in the Wedding district are discussed.
Commitment walk
Another event is the engagement walk “Discovering four stations of cohesion”, which begins on September 18, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. The starting point is at Oudenarder Str. 26, and the barrier-free route will last 2.5 hours. During the walk, four voluntary work stations in Wedding will be visited. These include Unter Druck e.V., AWO Mitte with the “Neighbors Help Neighbors” project, WIR GESTALTEN e.V. and the district representative mensch.müller.
All events are free of charge, but registration via the Volunteer Agency Mitte website is required. These events aim to encourage citizens to actively participate in shaping democracy and to promote social cohesion.
