On Sunday, April 28, 2024, a chamber music concert of the City West music school with the Duo Eclat will take place at 11 a.m. The motto of the concert is "Friendship in Leipzig". Ronny Spiegel (violin) and Luisa Sereina Splett (piano) will present works by Clara Schumann, Ethel Smyth, Pauline Viandot and Amanda X-ray-Maier. It is interesting that both musicians have known each other since childhood and now appear for the first time as a duo to present their program "Friendship in Leipzig".
The selection of the works for the concert is not accidental, but aims to honor the lifelong friendships between Pauline Viadot-Garcia and Clara Schumann as well as Amanda Röntgen-Maier and Ethel Smyth. These composers of the 19th century were strong personalities who inspired and support each other. The relationship between Clara Schumann and Pauline Viadot-Garcia, who played piano duos together and wrote down letters regularly, is particularly remarkable.
Amanda X-ray-Maier, born in Sweden, even played the D minor sonata from Brahms in Leipzig together with Clara Schumann. Ethel Smyth, on the other hand, first had to lead a hunger strike to maintain permission from her family as a composer. These stories show the opposition that many female artists of the 19th century faced, and illustrate the importance of support and friendship during this time.
The concert is not only musical, but also historical and culturally significant. It honors the services and cohesion of these remarkable composers and helps to keep their legacy and music alive. Admission to this event is free, a pre -registration is not required.
The following table lists the works presented and the composers:
 | Composer | Werk |
