Brutal assault in Mitte: Mann beaten with a glass bottle after a dispute!
In Berlin, another attack on a person in the city center has caused public concern. This morning, a 24-year-old man was attacked by a group of five people on Chausseestrasse. The incident occurred around 3:35 a.m. and developed out of an argument in which a group member was said to have sexually harassed the victim's girlfriend. The situation escalated when the man was hit on the head with a glass bottle while the whole group beat him, even after he was already on the ground. After the attack, the group fled the scene. The young man suffered multiple head injuries and had to be taken to hospital. Criminal investigations are underway to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice. berlin.de reports that the victim was defending his girlfriend, which led to this violent incident.
Worrying accumulation of attacks
In another incident that recently made headlines, a trans woman in Schöneberger Motzstraße was threatened by a stranger with a glass bottle. The man insulted the 45-year-old, hostile before he injured her companion when he tried to protect himself with a chair. The perpetrator hit the companion with the bottle and hit him on the lip. In this case, too, the attacker fled after the incident. According to the [Tagesspiegel] (https://www.tagesspiegel.de/berlin/Kriminalitat-angrasmit-glas flasch-transfrau-in-berin-droht-14190071.html), a suspect was later identified, but escaped over a wall before the police arrived. The severe such attacks shows how urgently measures are necessary to protect the LGBTIQ*community.
Growing numbers of anti -queer crimes
A report by the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) offers further context on the increasing attacks. In 2023, 1,785 crimes against LGBTIQ* were registered, a significant increase compared to 2022, when there were 1,188 cases. The most common crimes include insults, acts of violence, incitements, coercion and threats. In particular, the number of victims of violent acts against LGBTIQ* was 212, an increase of 197 in the previous year. These developments are often associated with a negative social reaction to the LGBTIQ*community and an increasing willingness to display incidents. bka.de points out that 96% of the LGBTIQ* people do not show and 87% physical or sexual attacks, often out of fear of a negative reaction from the police Deeds do not consider serious enough.
These alarming statistics illustrate how important it is to create a sensitive and safe environment for all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The BKA is still committed to promoting diversity and against discrimination and hatred, and has developed crime prevention programs to increase the safety of LGBTIQ*.
