Bloody clash in Berlin-Mitte: Six injured after knife attack!

On the evening of October 20, 2025, there was a serious clash between two groups in Berlin-Mitte, which resulted in several injuries. Like the Berlin police in their press release reported, police were alerted around 9:45 p.m. after witnesses noticed armed men with knives. The incident occurred near the Karl Liebknecht Bridge, in close proximity to the Berlin City Palace.

During an initial operation, the police found several injured people: two 20-year-olds, a 23-year-old and a 24-year-old suffered stab and cut wounds and were immediately taken to nearby hospitals. On the nearby town hall bridge, emergency services discovered two other men, 24 and 26 years old, who were also injured. Of particular concern was the 24-year-old's life-threatening back injury. The other injuries affected the hands, legs, pelvis and thorax.

Arrests and investigation

In connection with the altercation, a 14-year-old and two men aged 19 and 20 were temporarily arrested, but were released after their identities were established. The young person was handed over to the care of the children's emergency service. During the entire operation, the police were unable to find any possible murder weapons or tools at the crime scene or in the surrounding area, and the exact background to the altercation remains unclear. Investigations by the specialist police department of Police Directorate 1 (North) were initiated to clarify further details.

The situation is reminiscent of a similar incident in the same region, which also involved stabbings. According to a report by rbb24 This incident affected six people, including a 24-year-old with life-threatening injuries. Other victims included men between the ages of 20 and 26 with similar injuries. Here too, passers-by alerted the police about armed groups that were allegedly gathered at the Humboldt Forum. It is suspected that other people involved may have fled before the police arrived.

Violent crime background

To understand the increasing concern about such violent incidents, it is important to note the current trend in violent crime in Germany. According to information from Statista Violent crimes account for less than 4% of all crimes recorded by the police, but they have a significant impact on citizens' sense of security. The number of recorded violent crimes reached around 217,000 in 2024, the highest mark since 2007, after declining from 2017 to 2021. This points to a worrying increase that encompasses various factors, from economic uncertainties to social stresses.

Statistics also show that around 260,000 people become victims of violent crime every year. The increase in young perpetrators is particularly noticeable. Younger perpetrators, particularly those under the age of 21, are increasingly involved in violent crimes, which could be due to ongoing social and economic problems.

The events of the last few days highlight urgent social issues and the need to take further prevention and education measures to counteract rising violent crime.
