In a dramatic incident in Mitte last night, a 43-year-old man was arrested for allegedly aiming a long gun at passers-by. At around 10 p.m., citizens alerted the police when they saw the man firing the gun on the sidewalk on Fischerinsel. Fortunately, there was no exchange of fire. The emergency services and a police helicopter immediately went to the area where the man, who was already known to the police, was finally caught at his home address.
During the arrest, the 43-year-old suffered an injury to his eyebrow and was treated by a paramedic. In his apartment, officers found two air guns, ammunition, a knife and a small amount of cocaine. The man then had to undergo a blood sample and identification treatment. Because of his unusual behavior, the police wanted to take him to the psychiatric ward of a hospital, but he was released from there. The criminal investigation department of Police Department 5 is now taking over the further investigation.
