Alarming methane emissions: Federal government has to act!

all -clear? None! Current measurements of German environmental aid (DUH) show an alarming finding: methane, the dangerous climate, escapes uncontrollably from biogas plants and energy infrastructure in Germany! In a number of measurements that have been carried out since late summer, the environmental experts found five biogas plants, a gas thickener station and an LNG import terminal.

methan, known for being more than 80 times more harmful than CO2 over a period of 20 years, is one of the main causes of global warming! At least a third of the global temperature increase can be traced back to this invisible culprit. Its uncontrolled exit not only endangers the climate, but also damages human health and reduces agricultural income.

worrying measurement data!

The DUH has proven a significant methane ceremony in the ambient air close to all tested systems in its most recent investigation, sometimes even at a great distance! Jürgen Resch, the Federal Managing Director of the DUH, explains: "Our measurements show that daily significant amounts of methane escape uncontrollably. This has devastating consequences for the health of the population and for the climate."

The DUH sums it up: Immediate controls and a comprehensive methane reduction plan are needed! The focus must be on all relevant sectors, especially on agriculture and the energy sector. The European Environment Agency estimates that 3,300 early deaths in Germany can be complained about by Ozon, which arises from methane. A truly frightening finding!

The urgency is obvious!

But that's not all: Duh managing director Sascha Müller-Kraenner sharply criticizes the federal government, which is celebrating itself as a "champion" of the Global Methane Plessge, but is in terms of actions: "Since the start of the climate conference in Glasgow three years ago, she has done nothing to reduce methane." To be able to act credibly in Baku, the government must finally present a clear national reduction plan.

Axel Friedrich, project manager of the EKI, emphasizes that the measurements are continued in order to continue to uncover methane sources. "Authorities and governments urgently have to draw consequences and effectively act against the uncontrolled emissions," he says. The solution is often easy and now has to be implemented as quickly as possible!

The DUH will also be present in the COP29 in Baku and will inform about the shocking methane emissions. But time is pushing, and those responsible have to act now!
