75 years IJGD: Celebrate and fight for voluntary services in Berlin

An anniversary with explosive demands! The International Youth Community Services (IJGD) celebrate 75 years of voluntary services - and this is not without the highest alarm! While the big ceremony will soon be imminent in Berlin on September 27, 2024, there are massive budget cuts that endanger the future of these important orders! Over 4,000 young helpers are committed to a considerable extent annually, but the threat to politics could destroy everything!

What started in Hanover 75 years ago is an impressive story. Students, driven by the idea of ​​reducing prejudices through international encounters, kept the torch of the engagement up. The first work camps after the Second World War not only helped the reconstruction, but also created the basis for an organization that works for community and peace.

The Federal Government's current budget planning provides to shorten the budgets for the Voluntary Social Year (FSJ) and the Federal Voluntary Service (BFD) by comprehensive 40 million euros! That means serious dangers for the voluntary services and the future of thousands of future volunteers!
