XXL refrigerator in Mainz: Tips against food waste
Food value estimate in the focus: "Too good for the bin!" FROM TOURT TO TOURTAGE through Germany
In Germany, around eleven million tons of food waste are incurred annually, an alarming problem that also affects the citizens of Mainz. The initiative too well for the bin! of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) has been campaigning against this waste since 2012 and now offers an entertaining way with its impressive XXL refrigerator to find out about the correct food storage. The refrigerator can be admired from 09.09 to 12.09 on Gutenbergplatz in Mainz and conveys essential tips to avoid food losses.
The main focus of the initiative is to clarify consumers. With elaborately designed scenes and acoustic stories, visitors are given where and how food can best be stored. This information is valuable, because the correct storage can significantly extend the durability of fruit, vegetables and other foods. For example, the participants learn that cheese can clean their compartment while bread "moths" itself - creative ideas that make the topic clear.
The tour is part of a larger plan of the BMEL to reduce food waste in Germany. It is a strategy that looks beyond private households and also includes the sectors of primary production, processing and retail. The long -term goal is to reduce food waste by half by 2030. With the support of local organizations, such as the Rhineland-Palatinate Consumer Center, the refrigerator is presented in a total of ten cities, with Mainz being the fifth stop of this educational tour.
Due to the descriptive and playful form of knowledge transfer, citizens should not only be informed, but also motivated to make an active contribution to reducing food waste. This is particularly relevant in view of the fact that six and a half million tons of food are unnecessarily disposed of in German households alone.
In a time when awareness of environmental protection and sustainable consumption is becoming increasingly important, the not only offers too well for the bin! fridge, but also acts as a stimulating starting point for discussions about an environmentally conscious way of life in our society. The campaign could serve as a pioneering example of how education and interaction can lead to positive changes in the behavior of consumers.
With the visit to Mainz and the other stations until October 17, the initiative is too good for the ton! The hope is that the impressions and information from this tour are not only temporary, but in the long term strengthening awareness of sustainable grocery storage and respectful use of our resources.
