Winter aid for children in Lebanon: Nice worsen

in Lebanon the situation stands for more than 400,000 displaced children on the brink! Winter is approaching and with it icy temperatures, but the conditions in the overcrowded collective accommodation are alarming. Clean water? None! Sanitary facilities? Hardly available! And the worst: the first cholera case has already been reported!

Save the Children raises the alarm about the health situation. "The cholera case alerted us-but not surprised," explains Jennifer Moorehead, country director of the organization in Lebanon. In 2023, a dramatic decline in vaccinations has already been documented, which makes thousands of children unprotected against life -threatening diseases such as measles, meningitis and hepatitis A. These are frightening facts that should shake us up!

desperate conditions in collective accommodation

in a school in the Lebanon Mountains, Fatima, a desperate mother, shares a classroom with eight other families. "We are fighting for vital medication for chronic diseases," complains the 31-year-old. "Imagine: 30 families have to share a single school toilet without shower and warm water! To wash the children, we have to put water in the sun in plastic canists. These conditions are unbearable!"

Currently shocking 1.2 million people - almost every fifth Lebanese - are on the run. The Demonic Israeli air raids have brought the country's already battered health system to the brink of collapse. Almost 50% of the medical care centers are closed and numerous hospitals had to be evacuated. Water? Rationed or in many cases not available at all!

help in need: Save the Children reacts quickly

Save the Children has been providing humanitarian aid in Lebanon since 1953. The organization recently strengthened its activities and now supports around 110,000 people, including 47,000 children! Ceilings, food packages, hygiene articles - these are just a few of the saving goods that have been distributed in the past few weeks.

Unconditional support is now urgently needed because the upcoming winter is still exacerbated. The worst fears of international health organizations seem to be true: the cold not only brings with it diseases, but also countless other suffering. The Lebanon threatens to become the scene of a human tragedy if it is not acted immediately!

Save the Children was launched in 1919 by the British social reformer Eglantyne Jebb and has since developed into one of the largest independent child rights organizations in the world. Their goal is to protect the rights of the children and enable each child to live in safety and dignity - now the time is to be acted!
