Further education financing: Lauterbach calls for psychotherapy alliance

More than 2000 practices in Germany would like to offer further training for adult psychotherapists and child and adolescent psychotherapists, but so far no one practice has hired a psychotherapist in further training, since legal regulations are lacking. Barbara Lubisch, deputy federal chairman of the German Psychotherapist Association (DPTV), called for this during a rally in Würzburg. The broad alliance of students, training participants, associations, chambers and institutions criticized the still missing financing for the new further training. The Bavarian Minister of State for Health, Care and Prevention, Judith Gerlach, also supported the rally.

The current situation endangers the country's psychotherapeutic care, since no specialist psychotherapists can be trained without further training. The Psychotherapy Alliance therefore calls on the Federal Minister of Health Lauterbach to change the approval regulations and implement fair salary regulations for further training psychotherapists. It is emphasized that a timely implementation is necessary in order not to worsen the already tense psychotherapeutic pension sector.

dr. Andrea Benecke, President of the Federal Chamber of Psychotherapists, agrees with this claim and emphasizes the existing solutions for financing further training. These solutions must now be implemented to ensure the financing of further training.

Since the reform of 2019, training as a psychotherapist has been a psychotherapy course and subsequent further training in employment as a specialist psychotherapist. During further training, the already licensed psychotherapists are entitled to an appropriate salary. Without a change in the law, however, the financial means for practices, outpatient clinics and clinics are missing in order to offer sufficient training positions.
