Wallaby from Kladow caught again: animal adventure ends well!

An escaped wallaby from Berlin-Kladow attracted the attention of animal lovers and residents on Thursday, October 12, 2025. The exotic animal had been missing since last weekend after escaping from its enclosure. Thanks to attentive employees of a horticultural company, the wallaby was finally discovered and returned to its owner without the police having to specifically search for the animal, as it posed no danger.

A wildlife expert from the Leibniz Institute took over the safe rescue of the wallaby. The animal was stunned with a blowgun before being given a health check. The result was pleasing: the wallaby was healthy and had found enough food, which underlines its will to survive in the wild.

The return of the wallaby

In the late afternoon the wallaby was returned to its owner in Kladow. Kangaroos like this wallaby have relatively good chances of survival in the wild in Germany if the winters are not too cold. This resilience is highlighted by similar incidents in the past where escaped kangaroos have also been found.

As Spiegel reports, kangaroos and wallabies are not the most common pets in Germany, but there is a growing community that is keeps exotic animals. The legal framework for owning such animals varies, and it is necessary to be well informed in advance to ensure that the animals are kept in a species-appropriate manner.

A look at the Echo24 shows that kangaroos are attractive pets for many owners, but those interested should be aware of the requirements for keeping these animals. Examples from the past already show that a large number of such incidents can occur in urban areas. This requires not only the attention of pet owners, but also greater public awareness.
