The focus on environmental protection: DUH calls for measures for biodiversity
in the heart of Colombia, where the 16th World Nature Conservation Summit (COP16) takes place, German Environmental Aid (DUH) raises an alarm! The message is clear: the federal government must finally move and present concrete plans to protect the biological diversity in Germany. Time is pushing and it is up to those responsible to act now!
The words of Svane Bender, the experienced area manager for nature conservation and biological diversity at DUH, are urgent: "We are in the middle of a species crisis. If we do not focus on nature and species protection and continue to print the pressure of agricultural and industrial lobby, we will soon be completely destroyed."
urgent need for action
bender emphasizes that the contracting states at the summit urgently have to check the current status of implementing their goals. "We are asking Environment Minister Steffi Lemke to act urgently and to meet the obligations for nature and species protection," she says urgently. The responsibility of protecting biodiversity is now on the shoulders of the politicians!
But that's not enough! Chancellor Olaf Scholz is also obliged. “The promised 1.5 billion for international biodiversity financing must now flow,” calls Bender unmistakably. Because these means are not just number games - they are crucial to stop the threatening loss of biodiversity and to secure the livelihood of future generations.
an unmistakable failure?
A look at the latest developments shows that time is pushing. Last December, the contracting states achieved an ambitious consensus in the event of conventions on biological diversity (CBD) in Montreal - 23 goals should be achieved. But the reality looks dark: many of these goals remain unmatched. Instead, environmentally harmful subsidies and investments that harm nature exploded. Funding is inadequate and the use of pesticides remains an unsolved problem.
Svane Bender will observe the conference in Cali itself and is ready for press inquiries and interviews. The message is clear and urgent: now deeds have to follow!
The struggle for nature and biodiversity is more than a political theater - it is the key to a living, healthy future on our planet!
Berlin, a term that means hope for many hope now has to act determined. It is time to comply with your own obligations and to fight for the well -being of our environment!
