The Berlin citizens also employ the situation of the people affected in Turkey and Syria in Berlin. Some Berliners have family connections to the affected regions and are worried about their relatives. The Berliners show solidarity and support organizations that carry out emergency work in the region.
The Johanniter are one of these organizations that have been on site since the earthquake. In the first few months after the catastrophe, they spent warm meals, distributed hygiene and baby skates and supported households with vouchers and cash aids. Even a year later, these measures are still of great importance, since many families in Syria have lost their basis for working through the earthquake.
The Berliners support the work of the Johanniter and other aid organizations through donations and voluntary work. The Berliners are aware that the situation in the affected region is far from overcome and that reconstruction will take years. The Johanniter, supported by Berlin donors and volunteers, continue to work for the people in the region and carry out income measures to help those affected in the long term.
