On May 31, 2024, the historic regattatriences in Grünau was solemnly reopened. This significant event marks a return to the roots of the muscle-powered water sports in the Treptow-Köpenick district and sets a strong symbol for the long water sports tradition in the region.
The regattatriuben in Treptow-Köpenick has been closely connected to the Grünau regatta line for 90 years. Opened shortly before the Olympic Games in 1936, it has served as a popular venue for rowing and canoe competitions since then. Due to a comprehensive renovation, the stands now shine in new splendor and is again the focus of the interest of water sports enthusiasts and lovers.
In addition to its role as a competition, the regattatriences will also serve as a home of the Grünau water sports museum. The museum will offer visitors an insight into the history of water sports and present regularly changing exhibits. In addition, the local association Grünau will offer cultural events and social activities at the site of the stands.
The DLRG will also benefit from the new premises on the regattatriube. In addition to its use in the water rescue service, the DLRG will take over the regatta protection on the long lake and support them in events and regattas.
District Mayor Oliver Igel emphasized the importance of the regatta tunnels as a symbol for the long tradition of water sports in Treptow-Köpenick. They are not only a venue for regattas, but also a place of encounter and exchange for water sports enthusiasts from the region and beyond.
The district councilor Marco Brauchmann praised the cooperation of everyone involved and emphasized the importance of the regatta steering as an important meeting place for sport, culture and water rescue. Due to the renovation, the location becomes a central point of contact in Grünau.
